The Overview

Visitors to Northbridge learned just how quickly a train can “come out of nowhere” as part of a projection installation to promote Rail Safety Week.

The reactions of passers-by to the image of a fast-approaching train were filmed as part of the campaign.

Public Transport Authority spokesman David Hynes said the people surprised by the projection escaped unscathed, if a little embarrassed in some instances.

"While the reactions we captured in this video are initially entertaining, it’s a sobering fact that this shock is something railcar drivers regularly witness from their cab".
